Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Quality Control Technician (CMM) opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.
Position Overview:
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for supporting quality assurance activities throughout the manufacturing process by performing inspections, audits, testing, and data analysis to ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards. This role requires hands-on experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Program, operate, and interpret results from Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to verify dimensional compliance.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), specifications, and quality standards.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Investigate non-conforming materials and products, assisting with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and management teams to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Verify calibration status of inspection equipment and coordinate calibration activities as needed.
  • Assist in developing inspection plans, control plans, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, ISO standards, and company quality procedures.
  • Participate in process improvement projects focused on reducing defects and improving product quality.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating and programming CMM equipment (such as Zeiss, Mitutoyo, Hexagon, Brown & Sharpe, or similar systems).
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, inspection procedures, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends related to product quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and quality management software.
  • Active DOE "Q" Clearance
