General Summary

Operates paving machine to spread and smooth freshly poured concrete or asphalt surfaces. This job participates in on-the-job training.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Must be able to operate asphalt or concrete paver.

  • Ability to operate other paving related equipment as well such as rollers, screed,etc.

  • Must be able to safely perform a number of construction paving duties.

  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor.

  • Moves levers, depresses pedals, turns handwheels, and pushes throttle to control and guide machine.

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Certification

  • Proper certification required

Work Experience

  • Appropriate training and experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Workers should be able to:

  • Read engineering drawing

  • Practice good safety habits

  • Work in dusty or dirty surroundings

  • Follow instructions and meet set standards

  • Judge distances and slopes accurately
