Composite Technician – Ballistic Armor Manufacturing

Job Summary

A growing advanced manufacturing facility in Erie, PA is seeking skilled and motivated Composite Technicians to assist in the production of high-performance ballistic armor panels and protective composite components. This hands-on position involves working with fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar®, resins, adhesives, and specialized manufacturing equipment to build lightweight armored panels used in demanding industrial and defense-related applications.

Candidates should be detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where precision and quality are critical.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture composite armor panels using fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar®, and other advanced composite materials
  • Measure, cut, stack, and position composite fabrics according to engineering specifications and layup schedules
  • Perform resin application, vacuum bagging, compression, curing, and bonding processes
  • Operate production equipment including presses, cutting tools, trimming equipment, grinders, and finishing tools
  • Prepare molds, tooling surfaces, and materials for production runs
  • Inspect finished panels and components for quality, consistency, structural integrity, and dimensional accuracy
  • Sand, trim, finish, and repair composite parts as needed
  • Follow detailed manufacturing instructions, blueprints, and safety procedures
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas while adhering to all PPE and safety requirements
  • Assist with material handling and movement of completed armor systems throughout production

Composite Manufacturing Process Experience Preferred

Ideal candidates may have experience or familiarity with:

  • Fiberglass layup and reinforcement techniques
  • Carbon fiber composite fabrication
  • Kevlar® layering and ballistic panel construction
  • Vacuum infusion or vacuum bagging
  • Resin mixing and curing procedures
  • Structural bonding and lamination
  • Composite trimming and finishing
  • Reading technical drawings and manufacturing specifications

Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or composite fabrication experience preferred
  • Experience with fiberglass, carbon fiber, or Kevlar® materials is highly desirable
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials as needed
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced composite processes
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
