Job Overview
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and coordination of clinical services within Bridge Street ASC. This position oversees the daily operations of nursing services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
The Director of Nursing serves as a clinical leader and liaison among patients, physicians, anesthesia providers, and surgical support staff. This role is responsible for staff development, quality improvement initiatives, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of excellence in patient care.
Essential Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Direct and oversee all nursing operations to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
- Ensure compliance with patient rights, safety initiatives, infection prevention standards, and clinical best practices.
- Participate in nursing care activities as necessary to assess, maintain, and promote patient wellness.
- Evaluate patient care needs and implement solutions to address clinical concerns, complaints, and operational challenges.
- Facilitate smooth patient flow throughout the facility and ensure timely communication regarding delays or changes in scheduling.
- Organize and support patient education initiatives and discharge instruction processes.
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
- Ensure the development, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of all clinical policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee staff competency validation, licensure verification, certifications, and mandatory education requirements.
- Participate in regulatory surveys, inspections, audits, and accreditation activities.
- Attend and actively contribute to Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Patient Care, and other required committees.
Quality Improvement & Risk Management
- Lead the facility's Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
- Develop and implement quality initiatives that improve patient outcomes, safety measures, and staff performance.
- Analyze quality metrics, incident reports, infection control data, and patient satisfaction trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions and process improvements.
Staff Management & Development
- Direct recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and retention of clinical personnel.
- Ensure staff assignments are based on education, training, competency, licensure, and job responsibilities.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
- Recommend merit increases, corrective actions, and disciplinary measures when appropriate.
- Assess staffing needs, develop schedules, forecast workforce requirements, and maintain appropriate staffing coverage.
Operational & Administrative Management
- Assist in planning and administration of the operational, managerial, fiscal, and reporting functions of the facility.
- Coordinate clinical services with physicians, anesthesia providers, and administrative departments.
- Develop departmental goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives.
- Identify operational challenges and recommend solutions that improve efficiency and patient care delivery.
- Maintain effective communication with internal departments, external partners, and community resources.
Emergency Response
- Demonstrate competency in emergency response procedures, including:
- Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (BLS/ACLS)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Airway management and respiratory support
- Defibrillation
- Ambu bag utilization
- Venipuncture and IV access assistance
- Support during emergency medical situations
Professional Development
- Maintain current knowledge of healthcare regulations, industry standards, and perioperative nursing best practices.
- Participate in professional organizations and continuing education activities.
- Encourage staff participation in educational and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience in a licensed healthcare facility.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Strong knowledge of ambulatory surgery center operations, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
- Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center leadership experience.
- CNOR, CPAN, CAPA, or other perioperative nursing certifications.
- Active participation in AORN or other professional nursing organizations.

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required in a clinical environment.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
- Ability to perform essential nursing functions and patient care activities as needed.
