Job description
Boston University is an educational institution seeking a technology professional for their National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories. The IT Systems Specialist will provide direct client support, configure systems for research and operations, and contribute to special technology projects in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
• Provides direct client support for requests and issues.
• Configures systems for research and operations.
• Recommends technical solutions.
• Educates clients on available tools.
• Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots Windows and Mac computers and software.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Deep familiarity with Windows and MacOS operating system use and management.
• Comfortable with installing, configuring, and upgrading Windows and Mac systems.
• Proven track record in troubleshooting hardware, software, OS, and network issues while employing thoughtful strategy and communication.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and common desktop software, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Active Directory.
• Experience with tools leveraged in enterprise environments for delivering support and system management - such as for remote assistance, asset management, deployment and mobile device management, patching, virus protection, and encryption (e.g., BeyondTrust Bomgar, Quest KACE, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit).
• Familiarity with wired/wireless networking principles, such as TCP/IP and application protocols, and how they play a role in normal computer use.
• Applicants for this position must possess US citizenship or a Permanent Resident (Green) Card to be eligible to obtain DOJ Security Risk Assessment approval.
• Criminal Background Check: To be completed in accordance with BU Public Safety guidelines and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
• Basic Background Check: Includes, but is not limited to, verification of: Social Security Number; Academic credentials; Past employment; Licenses and credentials; Sexual Offender Registry Information (SORI) check; Credit history check; Medical Clearance Process: includes Research Occupational Health Program (ROHP) evaluation, drug screening, initial psychological screening, and immunization/titer level review completed in accordance with NEIDL Medical Surveillance Policy for employees working at the NEIDL.
• Training and Education: to be completed in accordance with Section 8, Ongoing Personnel Reliability Program, for all employees working at the NEIDL.
• Department of Justice Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting: To be completed in accordance with Center for Disease Control (CDC) requirements, as part of application to have access to Select Agents.
• Select Agent Use Approval: to be completed in accordance with all regulations including requirements of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the CDC.
• When applicable, individuals will be required to maintain all applicable clearances and licenses and to disclose any changes in circumstances that could compromise access to the facility.
• Continued employment is contingent upon strict adherence, at all times, to applicable requirements, safety and security rules, procedures, protocols, and required training regimens.
