Motor Grader / Finish Blade Operator

Position Summary

We are hiring an experienced Motor Grader / Finish Blade Operator for sitework, excavation, roadway, and civil construction projects throughout Central Texas. This position is responsible for precise finish grading on commercial, residential, municipal, and infrastructure projects. The operator must be capable of working independently, maintaining grade accuracy, reading site plans and stakes, and operating safely and efficiently in fast paced field conditions.

This is a full time position with steady year round work for a well-established excavation and grading contractor with more than 30 years of experience and a strong reputation in the Central Texas construction market.

Temple, Texas and surrounding Central Texas job sites

Schedule

Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays based on project demands and weather conditions.

Compensation

Responsibilities

  • Operate motor graders for rough grading and finish grading operations on civil construction and site development projects
  • Perform precision finish grading for building pads, parking lots, roadways, subgrades, drainage structures, and paving preparation
  • Maintain grade tolerances using GPS systems, laser systems, grade stakes, hubs, and site plans
  • Cut and maintain proper drainage, slope, elevation, and crown according to project specifications
  • Work closely with project supervisors, foremen, survey crews, and other equipment operators to maintain production and quality standards
  • Operate equipment safely in active construction environments around crews, utilities, traffic, and structures
  • Conduct daily pre trip and post trip inspections on equipment
  • Identify and report maintenance or mechanical issues promptly
  • Perform routine equipment servicing including fueling, greasing, cleaning, and fluid checks
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment and work areas
  • Assist with other earthwork and sitework operations as needed
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project specific safety procedures
  • Work efficiently in varying weather and jobsite conditions

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating motor graders in excavation, sitework, roadway, paving, or heavy civil construction
  • Strong finish grading experience preferred, the right candidate with less experience will be considered
  • Ability to hold grade accurately without constant supervision
  • Experience reading blueprints, grade stakes, elevations, and site plans
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems preferred
  • Knowledge of proper grading techniques, moisture control, drainage, and compaction requirements
  • Ability to safely operate equipment around underground utilities and active crews
  • Valid Texas driver license required
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAT motor graders and Spectra laser system or simular
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Experience in commercial site development, roadway construction, concrete paving preparation, and residential pad development
  • Ability to operate additional heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, and skid steers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment multiple times daily
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods
  • Ability to work in heat, cold, dust, mud, and uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
