What is a commission-based job?

Commission-based jobs are positions where employees earn all or part of their income based on the sales or deals they close, rather than receiving a fixed salary. In these roles, compensation is typically tied directly to performance, meaning the more you sell or achieve, the more you earn. This structure is common in industries such as real estate, insurance, and sales. Commission-based jobs can offer high earning potential for motivated individuals, but income can be less predictable compared to salaried positions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive in a commission-based sales role?

Success in a commission-based sales role requires strong sales acumen, negotiation abilities, and a deep understanding of the products or services offered, often supported by a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, point-of-sale systems, and online communication tools is valuable. Exceptional interpersonal skills, resilience, and self-motivation help individuals excel in meeting targets and building lasting client relationships. These competencies are crucial as they directly impact earning potential, customer satisfaction, and long-term business growth in a performance-driven environment.

What are common challenges faced by commission-based professionals, and how can they be managed effectively?

Commission-based roles often come with income variability, as earnings depend directly on performance and sales results. This can be challenging during slower periods or when building a new client base. To manage these challenges, many professionals focus on cultivating strong client relationships, maintaining a robust sales pipeline, and setting realistic financial goals. Additionally, successful commission-based workers often collaborate closely with their teams to share leads and best practices, which can help drive results and stabilize income over time.

Job description

About Humantold

Humantold is a mental health practice built on the belief that well-supported clinicians provide the best care. We offer high-quality psychotherapy and psychiatric services, with a strong operational infrastructure that allows clinicians to focus on meaningful client work.

We are now expanding our B2B partnerships and looking for someone who can help us build relationships with:

  • NYC-based companies (including financial services firms)
  • Private schools and educational institutions
About the Role

We are looking for a highly connected, relationship-driven Enterprise Partnerships Consultant to help introduce Humantold to organizations that would benefit from mental health support for their employees, students, or communities.

This is not a traditional sales role. We are looking for someone who already has existing relationships and access to decision-makers and can open doors and move conversations toward signed partnerships.

Compensation

This is a commission-only role, with compensation tied directly to signed contracts/partnerships.

  • Payment is made upon execution of a signed agreement
  • Commission structure will be discussed based on deal size and scope
  • No base or hourly compensation is provided
  • We are open to structuring higher commission percentages for candidates with strong, relevant networks.

This structure is intentional — we are looking to partner with someone confident in their ability to generate and close opportunities.

What You’ll Do
  • Leverage your existing network to introduce Humantold to:
    • HR leaders / Heads of Benefits
    • School administrators and leadership teams
    • Other relevant decision-makers
  • Facilitate warm introductions and early conversations
  • Support positioning and partnership discussions as needed
  • Help move opportunities through to signed agreements
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong existing relationships in one or more of the following:
    • NYC-based companies (finance, professional services, etc.)
    • Private schools or educational institutions
  • Experience in partnerships, business development, or enterprise sales
  • Comfortable operating independently and owning the relationship process
  • Able to clearly articulate value in a way that resonates with organizations
What Makes This a Good Fit

This role is best suited for someone who:

  • Already has access to relevant decision-makers
  • Prefers a flexible, outcome-driven structure
  • Is confident in their ability to generate meaningful partnerships
To Apply

Please include a brief note outlining:

  • The types of organizations and decision-makers you are connected to
  • Any relevant partnerships or deals you’ve helped facilitate
