Job description

Position Description This is a full time, Non-Civil Service position with Metro Action Commission. The Early Head Start Teacher is under the direct supervision of the Head Start Center Manager and the general supervision of Head Start Assistant Center Manager. ***Extensive Background Checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position with MAC.*** Typical Duties Develop and implement weekly lesson plans based on an approved research-based curriculum

Provide age-appropriate learning experiences across all developmental domains, including literacy, math, science, social-emotional, and physical development. Adapt lesson plans and materials to meet individual learning needs, including children with disabilities or developmental delays. Complete developmental screeners within required timelines.

Conduct ongoing observations and assessments using tools. Use data from screeners and assessments to individualize instruction and document children's progress. Maintain an engaging, inclusive, and well-organized classroom environment that supports exploration and learning.

Interact with children in a warm, respectful, and responsive manner, encouraging problem-solving and curiosity. Ensure active supervision at all times and follow all health and safety policies. Implement positive behavior support strategies and social-emotional learning practices.

Address challenging behaviors using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed approaches. Collaborate with behavior or mental health specialists when additional support is needed. Build trusting relationships with families and communicate regularly through conferences, notes, calls, and meetings.

Support families in understanding their child's development and progress. Encourage family participation in classroom and program activities. Work closely with assistant teachers, coaches, and service providers (e.g., special education, health, nutrition)

Participate in team meetings, training, coaching, and professional development as required. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all Head Start and agency policies, procedures, and licensing regulations. Maintain accurate records of attendance, meals, assessments, incidents, and family contact.

Complete child portfolios, progress reports, and other required documentation promptly. Report suspected child abuse or neglect immediately as a mandated reporter. Minimum Qualifications Infant Toddler CDA credential or Equivalent coursework/training in early childhood development.
