Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer II

Location: Indianapolis, IN

PACIV (pronounced pah-SEEV) stands for Process Automation, Controls, Instrumentation & Validation

We are looking for an experienced Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer II to join our Indianapolis, IN team.

Work Authorization Required: This position is not eligible for H1B visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Design. Build. Commission.

In this position, you will take ownership of projects from concept through startup, working across control system architecture, PLC/HMI/SCADA development, electrical design, instrumentation integration, testing, and commissioning. If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges and watching your designs operate in the field, this is an opportunity to work on diverse automation projects while expanding your technical expertise.

What You Will Do
  • Design and implement PLC-based automation systems using Rockwell Automation platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, GuardLogix, and PlantPAx
  • Develop control system architectures including hardware, software, instrumentation, industrial networking, and field device integration
  • Create engineering deliverables including:
    • Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
    • Control Narratives
    • I/O Lists
    • Network Architecture Drawings
    • Loop Diagrams
    • Bills of Material (BOM)
  • Design industrial control panels, motor control systems, electrical schematics, and power distribution drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Specify PLC hardware, VFDs, motor starters, communication equipment, instrumentation, and related control components
  • Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications using Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, and related platforms
  • Configure industrial communication networks, including EtherNet/IP
  • Perform testing, validation, troubleshooting, and system optimization
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup, and commissioning activities
  • Serve as a technical lead on assigned projects and work directly with customers to define requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Support compliance with UL508A, UL698A, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and other applicable standards
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of industrial automation, controls engineering, or system integration experience
  • Proven experience delivering automation projects from design through commissioning
  • Strong experience with Rockwell Automation hardware and software, including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix
  • Experience creating electrical schematics and control panel designs using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, motor controls, and process automation systems
  • Ability to read and develop electrical drawings, P&IDs, control narratives, and technical specifications
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities for startup and commissioning activities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PlantPAx, process instrumentation, VFDs, and motor control applications
  • Experience designing control panels to UL508A and UL698A standards
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, utility, or other regulated manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of industrial networking protocols including EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, and OPC
  • Experience with additional PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms such as Ignition, AVEVA, Wonderware, iFIX, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or similar systems
