Job Summary

The primary role of an Auto Damage Appraiser is to appraise vehicle damage resulting from Collision and Comprehensive losses. Auto Damage Appraisers will inspect damaged vehicles, prepare and distribute auto damage appraisals, and work closely with Safety’s external auto damage appraisal vendors and partner body shops.

Responsibilities

  • Complete auto damage appraisals using appraisal estimating software

  • Accurately assess auto damage and the required parts, procedures, and materials to return vehicles to pre-loss condition

  • Negotiate vehicle repair costs with repair facilities

  • Perform quality reviews of appraisals and estimates written by external appraisers

  • Identify total loss vehicles and initiate salvage procedures

  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable regulations, repair techniques, and vehicle technology

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with body shops, other repair facilities, and independent auto appraisers

  • Communicate promptly and effectively with claim stakeholders including customers, agents, Claims staff, and repair facilities

  • Explain vehicle damage and claims processes to vehicle owners in accessible language

  • Some roles may require instate travel along with providing required maintenance of a fleet vehicle

  • Other duties as required

  • High school diploma required

  • Graduation from an appraisal school accredited by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or significant body shop experience required

  • Massachusetts Auto Damage Appraiser license required

  • A minimum of two years writing auto damage appraisals required

  • Experience with auto damage estimating software required

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Additional vehicle repair industry training preferred

  • Experience using office software such as MS Office preferred
