This position's main function is to identify, address and correct any unscheduled failures in all processing, cooling and packing areas in plant as well as troubleshoot any unscheduled failures with plant's infrastructure. Assists Plant's Maintenance Manager in managing the overall plant's preventive maintenance program, including equipment specifications of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical routing, vacuum systems, circuit boards, electronic equipment, and computer hardware. Assists Maintenance Manager to oversee the complete Plant's infrastructure. Oversees operation, installation, repair and maintenance of hot/cold water, gas, steam, condensate return, wastewater, compressed air, and electrical systems. Documents all maintenance personnel activities for performance and compliance with Company's standards in Personnel and Food Safety, sanitation, and productivity. Works in conjunction and follows direction from QA Director in the implementation of the Food Safety program. Works closely with Sanitation and Production departments to prevent water and operator damage to processing equipment.

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for his/her own safety.
  • Test, troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions of all processing and infrastructure equipment.
  • Ensures that disciplined processes are followed in repairing and maintaining equipment. Refers to equipment manuals to evaluate maintenance requirements ensuring that manufacturing specifications are followed.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Installs and adjusts/calibrates functional equipment parts.
  • Executes and maintains proper lubrication in all processing and infrastructure equipment.
  • Test and run equipment to evaluate performance.
  • Performs basic mechanical tasks in hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Performs basic electrical skills to assist in the repair of equipment.
  • Works very closely with production, QA and Sanitation departments to troubleshoot every processing equipment in plant on as need basis and keeps it working as per operating manual.
  • Assure that all mechanical and electrical equipment conforms and complies with all safety and operational regulations and requirements.
  • Actively support plant safety and loss prevention activities including employee training, enforcement of safety procedures, accident investigations and timely implementation of safety and related repairs and improvements as needed.
  • Perform special projects and/or reviews as assigned.
  • Ensures full compliance with facility and department safety rules, HACCP, SSOP's & GMP's according to Company's Food Safety guidelines.
  • Assists in the cross training of other Team Members to deliver the highest quality to Operations.
  • Ensures proper safety Personal protective Equipment, (PPE) is always worn.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of QA Director, assists maintenance department on all Fire Inspections, FDA Inspections, USDA Inspections, US Agriculture Inspections, and all Orange County Health Department Inspections and works closely with QA Director on responses and corrective actions.
  • Maintains all equipment in optimum operational condition.
  • Assists QA and Sanitation during pre-operational inspections.
  • Executes all maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Executes the Safety program of the Plant and leads by example.
  • Conducts daily throughout the day, visual inspections on all processing equipment.

Position requirements and conditions:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Position must have solid knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices and extensive experience in processing equipment repair/rebuild, inspection and troubleshooting of a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic skills.
  • Must have basic Electrical skills.
  • High school diploma required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a food manufacturing setting with strong knowledge of inventory and supply-chain processes.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and constructively in a team setting.
  • Basic written, verbal, communications, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Must have a solid attendance record.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Forklift certification required.
  • Food Handlers Certification.
