Job Title: Ceramic Tile Installer / Carpenter
Location: Norfolk Naval Shipyard
Job Type: Full-time / Contract / Non-Exempt
Salary: Pay Based on Experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking multiple candidates for Ceramic TileInstaller and/or Carpenter to work in a shipyard environment,specializing in the installation and repair of SHT tile surfaces aboard navaland commercial vessels. This role requires a background in tileinstallation, subfloor preparation, and carpentry, ensuring high-qualitycraftsmanship while meeting strict maritime safety and industry standards.  This job will provide an opportunity to trainas a SHT tile installer, which is responsible for applying specialty tiles on nuclearpowered submarines.  This is a Temp-to-Permposition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surface Preparation: Prep and level surfaces for tile installation.
  • Tile Installation: Measure, fit, and install composite tiles on submarines.
  • Caulking & Finishing: Apply caulk and finishing touches to ensure durability and slip resistance.
  • Repairs & Maintenance: Remove damaged tiles, replace caulking, and repair tiles.
  • Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to shipyard specifications, safety regulations, and maritime industry standards.
  • Safety & Worksite Maintenance: Follow strict shipyard safety protocols, wear proper PPE, and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Commercial Tile Installation/Carpentry: Experience working on large-scale construction or renovation projects.
  • Tile Installation: Proficiency in installing ceramic or composite tile in high-traffic or industrial environments.
  • Industrial or Shipyard Experience: Familiarity with working in shipyards, manufacturing plants, or other industrial settings.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings and ship specifications when needed.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using manual tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment.
  • Physical Stamina: Capable of lifting materials, kneeling for extended periods, and working in confined shipboard spaces.
  • DBIDS Eligibility: Ability to pass background screening for access to military shipyards.
  • Safety Certifications: OSHA or shipyard-specific safety training is a plus.
