Job description

The Senior Project Manager will serve as a key delivery leader for complex utility‑scale solar projects, acting as the primary liaison between the project owner and multiple vendors responsible for on‑site execution. This role requires deep technical and industry knowledge, strong field experience, and proven leadership managing construction‑phase activities across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners.

This position is field‑oriented and Texas‑based. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience delivering solar generation projects in live field environments and excels at coordinating diverse stakeholders to ensure safe, high‑quality, on‑schedule project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Owner’s Representative & Liaison
    • Function as the primary interface between the project owner and EPCs, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, inspectors, and other third‑party vendors.
    • Represent owner interests onsite, ensuring contract adherence, quality standards, safety compliance, and schedule performance.
  • Project Execution & Field Oversight
    • Oversee and report status during end‑to‑end execution of complex solar projects, from pre‑construction planning through commissioning and turnover.
    • Provide active on‑site presence as required to monitor construction progress, resolve field issues, and drive corrective actions.
    • Coordinate field construction activities including civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning scopes.
    • Monitor performance testing methods and results.
  • Planning, Schedule & Cost Control
    • Develop and manage detailed project execution plans, including scope definition, milestones, schedules, and deliverables.
    • Track and report schedule performance, productivity, risks, and cost impacts; proactively mitigate delays or inefficiencies.
    • Review vendor progress, change requests, and pay applications to ensure alignment with contractual and budgetary expectations.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Apply strong technical judgment to solar plant design, installation means and methods, interconnection requirements, and commissioning activities.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve constructability issues, RFIs, and design modifications encountered in the field.
    • Identify, develop, and implement constructability improvements.
  • Risk Management & Issue Resolution
    • Identify project risks early and implement mitigation strategies related to safety, quality, schedule, constructability, and vendor performance.
    • Facilitate resolution of on‑site conflicts, interface challenges, and unforeseen conditions while maintaining owner relationships and project momentum.
  • Communication & Reporting
    • Provide clear, timely communication to owner stakeholders, leadership, and project teams regarding progress, risks, and key decisions.
    • Prepare executive‑level status reports, dashboards, and field updates.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive project management experience, with significant emphasis on utility‑scale solar projects.
  • Experience implementing and enforcing construction safety programs, including hazard analysis, regulatory compliance (OSHA and applicable federal standards), and on-site safety leadership.
  • Demonstrated field experience managing solar construction activities and vendor‑led execution.
  • Strong understanding of EPC delivery models, construction sequencing, safety programs, and commissioning processes.
  • Experience acting as owner’s representative or lead interface between owners and contractors is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, power generation facilities, and grid‑interconnection requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple contractors and vendors in fast‑paced, high‑risk field environments.
