General Purpose
We are excited to announce a new job opening for Gymnastics Instructors! This position will teach youth of all skill levels and ages tumbling and gymnastics, including floor, beam, vault, high bar, pommel horse, parallel bars, and bars. The individual will have a thorough understanding of CARA gymnastics rules and regulations and will adhere to them. This person should be capable of following a class-level curriculum, teaching students to master the material, assessing students' progress, and making recommendations for registration. Additionally, they will create and maintain a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all participants. Compliance with all City and Department guidelines and policies is essential.
Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.
*Salary range is reflective of the various instructor levels*
Gymnastics Instructor I - $17.06 - $19.44 per hour
Gymnastics Instructor II - $17.76 - $20.11 per hour
Gymnastics Instructor III - $20.04 - $22.57 per hour
Gymnastics Instructor IV - $23.09 - $25.86 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
Gymnastics Instructor I GD100
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must have two seasons of previous experience as a competitive gymnast.
  • Past competitive experience as a gymnast.
  • To have or obtain CPR, First Aid, Concussion Awareness and Universal Precautions Certifications.
  • Ability to be trained to teach beginning class levels.

Gymnastics Instructor II GD110
All of above plus,
  • One year of gymnastics instruction experience.
  • Ability to learn to spot intermediate level gymnastics curriculum.

Gymnastics Instructor III GD120
All of above plus,
  • Two years of gymnastics instruction experience.
  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
  • Ability to learn to spot CARA Team level gymnastics curriculum.
  • Ability to obtain CARA safety awareness training.
  • Ability to attend CARA gymnastics spotting, drills, and routine clinics and trainings.

Gymnastics Instructor IV GD130
All of above plus,
  • Two years' experience coaching competitive-level gymnastics (4 and 5) in recreation or a private club, or two years as a City of Commerce City Gymnastics Instructor III.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to learn advanced spotting on all apparatus for high school level gymnasts.
  • Ability to become CHSSA Certified.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Gymnastics Instructor I GD100
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of basic gymnastics instruction.
  • Ability to demonstrate gymnastics skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Gymnastics Instructor II GD110
All of above, plus:
  • Mastery of the instruction of tot, beginning and advanced beginning gymnastics class levels.
  • The ability to teach intermediate level gymnastics.
  • The ability to take on leadership roles during tot, and beginning/advanced beginning level classes.
  • The ability to instruct other instructors to teach tot, beginning and advanced beginning level classes.
Gymnastics Instructor III GD120
All of above, plus:
  • Mastery of the instruction of tot, beginning, advanced beginning, and intermediate gymnastics class levels.
  • Knowledge of CARA gymnastics rules and routines.
  • The ability to teach entry level CARA team practices (level 4 and 5).
Gymnastics Instructor IV GD130
All of above, plus:
  • Mastery of the instruction of tot, beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate gymnastics class levels and entry CARA team levels (level 4 and 5).
  • Knowledge of High School gymnastics rules.
  • Knowledge of choreography of gymnastics routines.
  • Proficiency of advanced gymnastics spotting techniques and drills.
  • Ability to lead a gymnastics team practice.
  • Ability to lead the gymnastics team at a competition.
  • Ability to take a leadership role in providing all necessary paperwork required for participation in the CARA gymnastics league to include waivers, collection of league fees, uniform orders, meet selections, etc.

Recreation Center Membership: Employees are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per year.
Golf Course Green Fees: Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes. Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.
Benefits: The city monitors the hours worked for seasonal and variable hour employees. In the event that they work more than 1,560 hours within the ACA measurement period, they will be offered health benefits.
Wellness: Employees are eligible to earn up to $100 for participation in various wellness activities offered by the City throughout the year.
Eligibility for Pay Increases: Employees are eligible for a pay increase around the time of their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation.
Sick Time: Accrual is 1 hour per 30 hours worked
