York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York's complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York's existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We're looking to expand our team across the board.
We are looking for talented, cross-domain software engineers to join a small, empowered strategic development team focused on rapid prototyping and advanced development across York's software portfolio. This team operates ahead of program need proving out new capabilities, de-risking emerging technology, and maturing prototypes to the point where they can transition into production programs. Scope spans across York software: Full stack web development, onboard embedded and real-time software, ground and cloud applications and tooling, and autonomy and machine learning.
We are looking for a Battle Management Software Lead to lead a team responsible for developing advanced mission software capabilities. In this role, you provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and day today guidance as the team builds software components that enhance mission planning, system coordination, and real-time decision support. You will steer the adoption of AI driven development workflows and modern distributed system design, ensuring the team delivers high quality, scalable, and mission relevant capabilities. This team's work directly enriches situational awareness and integrates new battle management features that support responsive, data driven operations. You will have the unique opportunities to see your team's work developed and tested with advanced simulation software and to observe its impact in operation at York.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and grow a team of software engineers including building skills to evaluate, debug, and improve agent behavior
  • Guide team in designing software architectures suitable for agentic development
  • Oversee software requirements, interface definitions, architecture reviews, and design decisions
  • Translate designs and requirements into high-quality, maintainable software that meets both functional and visual standards
  • Assist development and execution of comprehensive verification and validation plans to cover all requirements and features
  • Lead agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
  • Ensure successful delivery of battle management software releases
  • Relay simulation team plans, progress, and needs to upper management regularly
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on frontend and web application development
  • 2+ years of technical leadership, project leadership, or people management experience in an agile workflow
  • Familiar with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Experience with modern messaging frameworks and API technologies used in distributed systems
  • Experience with Git in a collaborative, multi-contributor environment
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive code quality through reviews and design discussions
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, design, and operational stakeholders
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements independently and drive to resolution
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Willingness to work full-time in our Austin, TX office; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, and Python building web-based user interfaces
  • Experience building and configuring agentic AI systems that streamline software development lifecycles by accelerating development, automating routine code assembly, and enforcing strict structural guardrails
  • Proficient designing systems that leverage LLM-driven agents, tool-calling, or multi-step orchestration
  • Familiar with vehicle simulation tools and methodologies, including modeling spacecraft dynamics, guidance and control behaviors, and mission-specific scenarios
  • Experience with container-based installation and deployment strategies, including Docker and CI/CD pipeline integration
  • Familiar with modern security practices including API token management, CUI or classified information handling, and/or air-gapped environments
  • Experience with WebGL or other canvas-based rendering for data-rich environments
