What are Comets?

Comets are small celestial bodies made mostly of ice, dust, and rocky materials that orbit the Sun. When a comet approaches the Sun, the heat causes its ice to vaporize, creating a glowing coma and a distinctive tail that can be visible from Earth. Comets are thought to originate from the outer regions of the solar system, such as the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud. They provide valuable information about the early solar system because they are composed of ancient materials. Observing comets helps scientists learn more about the formation and evolution of our solar system.
