Job Summary

Engineer 2, Data Center Engineering to support both deployment and day-to-day operations in a critical facility environment. This role serves as a key member of the data center engineering team, responsible for hardware installation, decommissioning, migrations, structured cabling, maintenance execution, troubleshooting, operational issue resolution, and on-call support. The ideal candidate works effectively across teams and vendors, applies sound technical judgment in equipment placement and infrastructure support, develops and follows technical procedures, and helps ensure data center operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards.

The Technology + Product organization works at the intersection of media and technology and our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products and next-generation technologies that transform the customer experience.

This engineer works onsite in our Northlake, IL Data Center. The hours are Monday-Thursday, 9am-8pm with a rotating on-call weekend schedule.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage rack, stack, power, cabling, deployment, decommissioning, and migration of equipment within the critical facility.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, support outage response activities, and engage appropriate resources to drive issues to closure.
  • Coordinate change activities, maintenance work, technical project execution, resource planning, and implementation schedules.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot structured cabling infrastructure and support day-to-day capacity and operational requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute MOPs, technical procedures, and validation steps to ensure work is completed safely and with minimal impact.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to after-hours incidents and urgent operational issues, and coordinate escalation or recovery actions as needed.
  • Document incident details, actions taken, and follow-up requirements to support effective handoff, root cause review, and continuous improvement.
  • Interface with vendors and internal stakeholders to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support data center infrastructure and related services.

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:

  • 2–5+ years of experience installing and supporting switches, routers, servers, and rack-mounted equipment in a data center or critical facility
  • Experience supporting high-speed data, voice, IP, and network infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of power systems, including PDUs, ATSs, and UPSs
  • Understanding of data center power and HVAC environments
  • Ability to plan installations, manage inventory, and maintain accurate documentation

Additional Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Exposure to AI tools, automation, or data-driven technologies
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and procedures
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools, ticketing systems, and data center support platforms
  • Experience coordinating vendors, materials, and project work
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork across technical and business teams
  • Ability to work independently, adapt in fast-paced environments, and execute with high quality

Salary:

Primary Location Pay Range: $68,460.25 - $102,690.38

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. The application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later.
