What is a Color Separation job?

A Color Separation job involves preparing artwork or images for printing by dividing them into separate color components, typically CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) or spot colors. This process ensures accurate color reproduction in printing methods such as screen printing, offset printing, or digital printing. A color separator uses specialized software to adjust hues, contrast, and trapping to achieve the best possible print quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Color Separation position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Color Separation specialist, you need a solid understanding of color theory, prepress processes, and experience with industry-standard design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and specialized RIP software. Familiarity with color management systems, spectrophotometers, and digital proofing tools is important, as are certifications in graphic arts or printing technology. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and clear communication with colleagues and clients are essential soft skills. These skills are crucial to ensure accurate color reproduction, efficient workflow, and high-quality output in print and packaging industries.

What are the typical responsibilities of someone working in color separation?

Color separation professionals are primarily responsible for preparing digital images and artwork for printing by dividing them into separate color components, ensuring that each aligns with specific printing requirements. This involves reviewing customer files, adjusting color balances, trapping, and creating proofs to guarantee accurate print reproduction. You’ll often collaborate with prepress, design, and production teams to resolve technical issues and meet tight deadlines. Additionally, staying updated with the latest color management technologies and techniques is important to maintain high-quality results and client satisfaction.

Description

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Senior R&D Chemist who will lead the design, execution, and analysis of experiments supporting medical isotope production and purification and used nuclear fuel (UNF) recycling. The role of the Senior R&D Chemist plays a critical part in radiochemical process development and ensuring regulatory and safety compliance.

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $120,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Senior R&D Chemist include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and optimize separation processes for actinides and fission products using advanced chemical techniques.
  • Lead and execute experiments for isotope production and used nuclear fuel (UNF) recycling, applying techniques such as column chromatography, solvent extraction, and crystallization.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams in chemistry, process engineering, and licensing to develop innovative UNF recycling solutions.
  • Maintain and calibrate key analytical and radioanalytical instruments including ICP-MS, XRD, HPLC, HPGe, LSC etc.
  • Contribute to innovative research by drafting proposals for funding opportunities.
  • Ensure safe handling of chemicals.

Requirements

  •  Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. in inorganic, analytical or radiochemistry preferred.
  • Strong background in metal ion chemistry, separation science, and analytical techniques.
  • Experience with radioactive materials is a plus but not required; training will be provided.
  • Prior work with UNF or metal ion separation (e.g., solvent extraction, crystallization, chromatographic separation) strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing technical proposals.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant's ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant's eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
