Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Color & Materials Designer / Industrial Design Consultant to support advanced design projects at the new Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, MI. This short-term, 12-week contract role will focus on concept development, product design, benchmarking, prototyping, trend forecasting, and collaboration with internal design teams across digital and physical touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop color, material, finish, and product design concepts based on customer insights and strategic objectives.
  • Create compelling design proposals that combine quantitative data with qualitative research.
  • Translate approved concepts into detailed design solutions across digital UX/UI and physical industrial design touchpoints.
  • Support prototyping efforts, including low-to-medium fidelity digital and physical prototypes.
  • Participate in design evaluation, co-creation sessions, research activities, and feedback reviews.
  • Iterate and refine design concepts based on stakeholder feedback and user insights.
  • Assist with documentation, design proposals, and baseline experience requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with internal client teams and integrate into existing design workflows.
  • Support benchmarking, study design, tool design, and product design activities as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of color and materials design experience.
  • Relevant creative work experience in trend forecasting, fashion, interior design, product design, or related disciplines.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality design output.
  • Ability to work onsite in Dearborn, MI at least 4 days per week.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and project needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with study design, tool design, benchmarking, and product design.
  • Experience working with internal client teams or consultancy-style design environments.
  • Proficiency with design tools including Figma, Blender, Rhino, Alias, Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, ProtoPie, and VRED.
  • Experience creating interactive prototypes and design presentations.
  • Automotive, consumer product, lifestyle, fashion, interior, or industrial design experience.
  • Ability to quickly understand business goals, target audiences, and industry needs.
