Job description

The Color Matcher I is a hands-on lab technician supporting the development and testing of new powder coatings in Sherwin-Williams's North America General Industrial Business.  The job is fast-paced, you will work with a team of experts, and you will learn quickly how to color match, test, and apply many different types of powder coatings.
 

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
    Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
    Must have a high school diploma or equivalent of.
    Must be at least 18 years of age. 
    Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Have at least one (1) year of work experience in color matching or painting.
    Have at least one (1) year of work experience with powder coating equipment

    Demonstrates knowledge of basic computer skills
    Learn to use color match software
    Learn to match new colors from standard panels, mostly solid colors of low complexity
    Understand the color/property relation - product properties, color, and characteristics
    Operate equipment such as extruders, mills, and spraying equipment
    Uses analytical balances to obtain accurate and repeatable measurements
    Demonstrates basic math skills
    Executes color matches, tests properties, and reports data to group leader or Senior Colorist
    Learns to manage time efficiently
    Obtains priorities from Group Leader and Senior Colorist for scheduling
    Documents formulations for lab work orders in Product Vision and forms designated by Group Leader
    Learns and applies processes selected by GL and Senior Colorists to solve problems
    Makes minor adjustments to formulas as quality checks indicate for color, gloss, texture, appearance
    Organizes work, uses help from others
    Performs ITMs according to set standards
    Evaluates test results based on ITMs
    Performs audits on equipment as needed
    Complies with all safety regulations
    Maintains a clean work area
    Works toward meeting goals and timelines set forth by group leader
    Maintain documentation as required 
    Maintain technical knowledge through training
