The Prepress Technician focuses on ensuring the accurate construction and processing of all artwork files for flexography, and digital label printing. Expertise in printing processes is paramount for this role, as the candidate adeptly configures jobs to meet customer specifications, ensuring swift turnaround times without compromising quality.
The primary emphasis of this position lies in the technical aspects of preparing files for printing, showcasing proficiency in optimizing files for flawless execution on the chosen printing platform. It's important to note that this is not a design position.

Responsibilities:
Proofing & Label Assembly
  • Create trapped production ready art files
  • Generate customer proofs
  • Manage multiple jobs in various proofing and assembly stages
  • Work with:
    • Adobe Creative Cloud
    • Esko software
    • Internal production systems

Stepping / Job Assembly
  • Build press sheet layouts
  • Modify layouts for production requirements
  • Manage multiple jobs in various stepping production stages
  • Prepare jobs for press operations

Color Management
  • CMYK and spot-color correction and matching
  • Support both:
    • Offset printing
    • Flexographic printing
  • Use GMG color management tools

Screen Making
  • Produce rotary silk screens
  • Maintain screen room materials and equipment
  • Manage multiple jobs in various screen production stages
  • Deliver press-ready materials

Plate Making
  • Create offset, flexo and letterpress plates
  • Maintain plate room equipment and materials
  • Manage multiple jobs in various plate production stages
  • Deliver press-ready plates

Preflight and QC
  • Review incoming customer artwork
  • Check files for printability and defects
  • Ensure production specifications are met

Job Tracking
    • Record work instructions
    • Track labor and materials
    • Use internal job management systems

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Interact directly with customers or graphics separators for queries, feedback on specifications, etc.
  • Participate in researching and developing new technology.
  • Ability to make color adjustment decisions at press
  • Perform routine maintenance and manage computers and equipment.
  • Comply with established facility safety policies and procedures and other regulations as applicable.
  • Adheres to MCC company code of ethics.
  • Participate in continuous improvement / Kaizen teams.
  • Attends department meetings and internal training classes.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or 2 years of equivalent combination of education and experience in Graphics Reproduction, Customer Service, or related fields.
  • Candidates will have experience working with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, ESKO workflows, GMG color management, Offset printing, Flexographic printing, Color correction, Trapping, Prepress production workflows and Label printing and packaging.
  • The position combines graphic prepress expertise, color management, print production, platemaking, and workflow administration.
  • Specific vision abilities required including color perception, depth, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and take pride in delivering quality work.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical information into actionable tasks.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work with minimal supervision.
