Job description

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC is looking for a dynamic, highly organized Aquatics Coordinator to join our Aquatics Leadership Team. This hybrid role perfectly blends direct, hands-on deck work with program management. You will spend 30–35 hours a week in direct service; splitting your time between lifeguarding, providing top-tier swim instruction, and coaching. When you're not on the deck, you'll be taking ownership of our popular Private Swim program, supporting staff, and connecting with families.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and want a leadership role where you still get to be a crucial part of daily pool operations, we want you on our team!

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):

  • Maintain a Safe Pool Deck (Lifeguarding): Actively perform lifeguarding duties to ensure the safety and well-being of all members and participants. Enforce pool rules and American Red Cross safety standards with vigilance and professionalism.
  • Lead the Private Swim Program: Take ownership of our private lessons! You’ll handle family communication, scheduling, lesson package management, and instructor pairing.
  • Direct Service & Coaching: Beyond lifeguarding, you will provide high-quality swim instruction (group and private), swim team coaching, and teach American Red Cross certification courses.
  • Support, Mentor & Train Staff: Assist the Assistant Aquatics Director with new hire onboarding. You'll play a key role in running new hire training and leading ongoing, engaging Lifeguard and Swim Instructor in-services.
  • Keep Operations Flowing: Utilize CRM tools (Traction Rec) to manage enrollments, transfers, and refunds. Maintain accurate lesson rosters, track session completion data, and issue report cards.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of swim instruction and/or lifeguarding experience required. Experience with adaptive aquatics or competitive swim coaching is a huge plus!
  • Certifications:
    • Required: Current Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
    • Preferred: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (or an equivalent mix of education and experience).
  • Skills: Strong organization and time-management skills, excellent communication, and tech-savviness (proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or Traction Rec is a major advantage).
  • The Right Mindset: A sharp, proactive problem-solver who can handle multiple priorities independently, maintain extreme focus while guarding, and give/receive professional feedback on a collaborative team.

Physical & Environmental Demands:

  • Comfortable working interchangeably between an active pool setting (standing, walking, sitting on the guard stand, scanning, and swimming) and an office environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently; ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • The pool deck can get loud, energetic, and warm; you should thrive in that environment
