Job description

Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Marching Band Color Guard Instructor. The ideal candidate would coordinate all color guard activities with assistance from the Director for the Buchanan High School Marching Band.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Other duties appropriate to the position may be assigned.

  • Working with the Band Director to audition and assign leadership
  • Developing and delivering a fundamentals-based instructional method
  • Maintaining, inventorying, and ordering color guard equipment
  • Writing and/or teaching a variety of work and warm ups
  • Teaching basic dance and marching fundamentals
  • Teaching of marching band drill
  • Attending all required rehearsals and performances
  • Scheduling additional color guard rehearsals outside of full band time
  • Assist in coordinating fundraisers for color guard equipment and uniforms
  • Displays tact and courtesy when dealing with students, staff and others
  • Familiar with MCBA or similar competitive circuit and is experienced on flag as well as additional equipment
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the administration
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District

Supervisory Responsibilities: Marching band color guard students.

  • Education and/or Experience
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors and will occasionally work indoors. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
Preferred: Experience working with high school aged children. Experience with MCBA or similar competitive marching band circuit.
