Job description

Physician (Gastroenterologist)

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time, Temporary (13 months) Physician (Gastroenterologist) to join the Specialty Care Service Line at the MVAMC in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A successful candidate would be self-motivated and dedicated with broad knowledge of gastroenterology and hepatology. The position requires a candidate to be organized and possess superb communication and leadership skills. Strong endoscopic skills including that of diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and endoscopy are required. The key duties of the job include outpatient and inpatient GI consultation, inpatient and outpatient procedures, some administrative roles and options for research and education. Overnight and weekend call is manageable and supported by GI fellow. The candidate would be eligible for academic appointment at the University of Minnesota and expected to participate in the teaching and mentoring of gastroenterology fellows, medical residents, and medical students.

Additional duties outside the referral coordination include diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases according to evidenced based methods and techniques. The candidate must be proficient at routine GI procedures such as: colonoscopy, EGD and capsule endoscopy, and its associated interventions (polypectomy, esophageal dilation, etc...). For a candidate with hepatology interest or experience tumor board participation would also be required.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 0800-430 pm
