Description:
The BIM Technician is responsible for creating coordinated 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings that support the efficient installation of mechanical, plumbing, or sheet metal systems on commercial and industrial construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers and field teams, this role identifies and resolves design conflicts, optimizes system layouts to reduce installation costs, and ensures all drawings align with project specifications and fabrication standards. Ideal candidates have experience with Revit, CAD detailing, and 3D design, along with the ability to interpret construction drawings and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

A day in the life:
  • Coordinate and work in accordance with plans and specifications, and ColonialWebb fabrication standards; advise the respective Project Manager of conflicts when they occur
  • Work in collaboration with the respective Project Manager to reduce cost of installation through efficient layout and acceptable changes to contract drawings
  • During coordination, create an efficient layout by eliminating unnecessary duct, pipe, and fittings
  • Facilitate any coordination with outside systems to effectively coordinate the job (i.e., web-based meetings, in person meetings, phone conversations, working sessions)
  • Review and understand all project documents and thoroughly understand scope of work
  • Provide accurate estimates for completion of assignments to the respective Detailing Team Leader
  • Communicate with the respective Project Manager or Project Engineer as required to accomplish assigned tasks; document directives and notify the respective BIM Coordinator of any changes effecting the completion of your work
  • Generate full coordination and fabrication drawings for fabrication; provide necessary paperwork to complete task

You should have:
  • Possess High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Navisworks, CAD detailing, and Revit is preferred but not required
  • Understanding of his/her trade (mechanical pipe, plumbing or sheet metal) relative to commercial and industrial construction
  • Ability to read and understand contract drawings, specs, and submittals
  • Possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate proficiency in CAD detailing and design
  • Possess experience with Revit and 3D design
