College of Law Research Center
Responsibilities
Florida State University seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative law librarian to serve as the Research & Special Projects Librarian. This position provides research and reference support to College of Law faculty and students and contributes to specialized library initiatives supporting the College's research, teaching, and public service mission.
In addition to core research and instruction responsibilities, this librarian will have a dedicated role in developing and supporting special projects, including work on the Florida Workers' Compensation Archive and research support for the Election Law Center. These projects offer an opportunity to contribute to innovative, high-impact work involving legal research, archival and digital collections, and public-facing legal information resources.
- Provides reference and research support to faculty and student research, including in-depth research assistance at the reference desk, email support, and in-person consultations.
- Contributes to the development, organization, description, promotion, and sustainability of special projects, including the Florida Workers' Compensation Archive.
- Provides research, current awareness, and resource development support for the Election Law Center, in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Works collaboratively on projects involving digital collections, archival materials, government information, legal history, and specialized research resources.
- Participates in legal research instruction via workshops, guest lectures, and other opportunities in various formats, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
- Contributes to the College of Law and the profession through committee work, research, publishing, and/or participation in professional organizations.
- Represents the Research Center on various colleges, campus, and library system committees and at meetings and other functions. Facilitates collaborative relationships within the College of Law and with campus partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in library science and appropriate experience as a professional librarian consistent with university guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- J.D. and Master's in library science from accredited institutions. Alternatively, substantial experience as a professional librarian or researcher that meets university guidelines may substitute for one of the degrees.
- Proficiency in legal research and information technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with varied groups.
- Excellent organizational, project management, time-management, and analytical skills.
- Strong service orientation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to meet the Research Center's research, service, and leadership requirements.

This librarian will be part of a highly collaborative, forward-thinking library that is a valued contributor to the College of Law's mission. The ideal candidate will have strong legal research skills, excellent communication and organizational abilities, the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment and be eager to develop or apply experience in archival or special collections work. We welcome experienced and entry-level applicants, including Spring/Summer 2026 graduates.
