College Program Intern information

What is a college program intern?

A College Program Intern is a student currently enrolled in a college or university who participates in a structured internship program, often sponsored by a company or organization. These internships are designed to provide hands-on experience in a specific field, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world work situations. The programs typically last for a set period, such as a summer or a semester, and may offer academic credit, networking opportunities, and potential pathways to full-time employment after graduation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a college program intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a College Program Intern, you typically need to be actively pursuing a relevant degree and possess strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills. Familiarity with productivity software such as Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace, as well as any industry-specific platforms, is often required. Initiative, adaptability, effective communication, and a collaborative spirit are standout soft skills for interns. These skills ensure you can manage responsibilities, contribute meaningfully to projects, and maximize learning opportunities in a professional environment.

What are some common challenges college program interns face when transitioning from academic settings to professional environments?

College Program Interns often encounter challenges such as adapting to workplace expectations, managing multiple tasks with tight deadlines, and learning to communicate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Unlike academic projects, workplace assignments may require collaboration across departments and frequent feedback from supervisors. Embracing a proactive approach—asking questions, seeking mentorship, and being open to feedback—can help interns navigate these challenges successfully and make the most of their internship experience.

Job description

Company Description

Disability Partnerships is a community-based 501c3 non-profit organization that seeks to provide support with the social, health and economic issues that are often faced by persons living with paralysis and/or a physical disability. Founded in 2015, Disability Partnerships collaborates across various partner sectors (business, nonprofit, government and education) to achieve goals in three specific program areas: economic empowerment, education and physical health and wellness. We set a broad goal for each of the program areas and then build an ecosystem of non-profit organizations, government agencies, businesses and faith-based institutions to achieve each goal.

Job Description

This is a part-time internship with an estimated 12 hours per week. We are recruiting for one intern to commit to a minimum 3-month internship with the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Build awareness of Disability Partnership program and activities by developing existing and new social media channels and marketing activities
  • Market events through social media channels
  • Build relationships with key social media stakeholders
  • Coordinate content across all social media channels
  • Develop editorial schedules and plans for social media efforts
  • This also includes outlining performance measures and tracking objectives and goals.

The executive director will serve as a mentor for the intern. This is an excellent opportunity to gain additional work experience in the fields of marketing and communication and social media management. The internship will focus on the professional development of the intern and is sponsored by Disability Partnerships. It is structured to provide significant work experiences, and interns are expected to take on a great deal of responsibility quickly.

This is an unpaid internship.

This internship is an exciting opportunity to build critical work experience in an emerging and popular field - partnership development and nonprofit management.
