Job description

Assistant Director, Workplace Experience - Reston
College Board - Global Strategy & Talent
Location: This is an on-site role and requires the candidate to work from College Board's Reston, Virginia office 5 days per week. All CB employees are required to occasionally travel to meet in person for business purposes.
Role Type: This is a full-time position.
About The Team
The Workplace Experience (WX) Team at College Board creates exceptional environments where employees connect, collaborate, and do their best work. Operating across three office locations - New York City, Reston, and Puerto Rico - the team ensures every workspace is safe, welcoming, and strategically designed to support College Board's mission and culture. WX is positioned as a strategic, culture-shaping function tied to talent attraction and retention, not traditional facilities management.
About The Opportunity
As the Assistant Director of Workplace Experience in Reston, you are the operational leader responsible for the full workplace experience at College Board's Reston, Virginia office. You own day-to-day strategy and service delivery for a location with distinct operational needs - you lead and are supported by the Reston Coordinator, own vendor relationships and budget for your location, and ensure the Reston community feels as connected and well-served as any College Board office.
In This Role, You Will
Reston Operations Leadership & Service Excellence (35%)
  • Own day-to-day operational strategy and service delivery for the Reston office, ensuring a consistently excellent experience for all employees and visitors.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for property management, managing the building relationship including escalations, maintenance requests, and building communications.

  • Oversee the vendor-managed security program including guard scheduling, performance monitoring, and escalation protocols.

  • Manage meeting and event logistics including large-scale gatherings, leadership visits, and cross-organizational events hosted in Reston.

  • Manage the Reston office technology ecosystem including the workspace booking platform and conference room AV systems.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security protocols; serve as office emergency coordinator.

Workplace Programming & Employee Engagement (25%)
  • Design and execute the Reston workplace programming strategy including holiday celebrations, cultural events, team luncheons, and welcome experiences for hybrid visitors.

  • Manage the office snack and beverage program including vendor relationship, inventory oversight, and budget.

  • Develop programming calendar aligned with organizational priorities and employee feedback.

  • Coordinate with NYC and PR counterparts to share best practices and maintain consistent programming standards.

Vendor Management & Budget Stewardship (15%)
  • Manage all Reston vendor relationships (snack and beverage, security, property management, janitorial, catering, office supplies, group lunch ordering) with documented SLAs and quarterly performance reviews.

  • Own the Reston WX operational budget, tracking spend and flagging variances proactively.

  • Evaluate new vendor opportunities and make recommendations to Director.

  • Process and approve invoices and purchase orders within delegated authority.

Data Collection, Synthesis & Reporting (10%)
  • Collect and synthesize Reston workplace data (space utilization, visitor logs, meeting volume, service requests, event attendance) into monthly reports for Director.

  • Identify trends and translate data into actionable recommendations for space optimization, programming, and service improvements.

  • Support Director in building the unified cross-location data dashboard by providing consistent, accurate Reston inputs.

Workplace Experience Team Leadership - Reston (15%)
  • Serve as the senior WX presence in Reston, setting the standard for service quality and operational judgment that the Coordinator works alongside daily.

  • Maintain clear primary/backup/support responsibility lines with the Coordinator, aligned to the role charter, so ownership of every workstream is unambiguous.

  • Share context, guidance, and real-time feedback that build the Coordinator's autonomy in routine operations, escalating development or performance observations to the Director.

  • Champion the Coordinator's access to the tools, training, and day-to-day support needed to deliver excellent frontline service.

About You
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a hands-on, service-delivery or operations role, with backgrounds in hospitality, retail, food service, facilities coordination, or a similarly fast-paced, customer-facing environment strongly encouraged.

  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity, such as shift lead, team lead, or similar, with demonstrated ability to direct others, coordinate a team, and take ownership of outcomes.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior leaders and executive stakeholders clearly and professionally, advocate for operational needs, and work through competing priorities with good judgment.

  • A hospitality-forward, service-first mindset and a genuine ability to make employees and visitors feel welcome and well supported.

  • Familiarity with facilities-related basics such as vendor coordination, property management interactions, and certificates of insurance, with the confidence to handle that side of the work independently.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities with consistency and follow-through.

  • Comfort with workplace tools and technology including Slack, workplace booking systems, AV platforms, and other office operations tools.
  • Experience with workplace data and the ability to translate operational metrics into strategic insights.

  • A commitment to supporting and developing less experienced team members.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work on site 5 days per week in Reston, VA.

  • Ability to travel on behalf of College Board business 1 to 3 times per year.

All Roles At College Board Require
  • A passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and mission-driven work.

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a willingness to experiment with and adopt new AI-driven solutions and comfort with learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactively.

  • Clear and concise communication skills, written and verbal.

  • A learner's mindset, commitment to growth, and openness to feedback.

  • A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
