We are looking for you to join our team as an Engineering Manager level 1 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This role is responsible for engineering leadership and technical direction to Marine Systems specializing in the development, manufacture, assembly and testing of power generation systems for next generation naval submarines. The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current and future development of Turbo-Machinery for Naval Submarines with an integrated engineering team consisting of a diverse staff of backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerothermal, Acoustics, Structural and Systems Engineers.
In this role, the manager will develop and lead a group of engineers through the entire product lifecycle for complex hardware products to support the U.S. Navy driving technical excellence for positive program impact. The position responsibilities include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated aptitude in areas of requirements and interface management and verification, design of fabricated and machined components, design of electrical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic subsystems, CAD modeling / drawing review, and successful execution of technical projects to cost and schedule targets.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the leadership and coordination of 15+ person engineering team
  • Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group.
  • Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.
  • Increasing machinery design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring.
  • Balancing employee needs with business goals.
  • Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group.
  • Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process.
  • Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline) with 5 years of engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline) with 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to work onsite at Sunnyvale, CA. This role is 100% on-site.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in functional/people management.
  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution.
  • Experience with requirements and interface management and verification.
  • Experience with design of fabricated and machined components, or design of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic subsystems.
  • Technical project management experience with proven successful execution of technical projects to cost and schedule targets.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).
  • Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
  • Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks.
  • Experience with proposals and Earned Value Management (EVM).

Primary Level Salary Range: $133,000.00 - $199,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
