 Job Title

High School Mathematics Teacher (Grades 912)

Reports To

Principal / Assistant Principal

Job Summary

The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned to Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards (MCCRS), promoting student achievement, and supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. The teacher will plan engaging lessons, assess student progress, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure instructional excellence.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective mathematics instruction for grades 912 (e.g., Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, or other assigned courses)
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with MCCRS and district curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English learners
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance
  • Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Integrate technology and instructional strategies to enhance student engagement
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
  • Uphold district policies, state regulations, and professional ethical standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Mississippi Educator License
  • Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics content and pedagogy
  • Effective classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators

Required Mississippi Licensure & Endorsements

Primary Endorsement

  • Mathematics (712)
    • Endorsement Code: 154

This endorsement authorizes the teacher to teach all secondary mathematics courses in grades 712.


Acceptable Licensure Routes

  • Standard Educator License (Class A or AA) with Mathematics (712) endorsement
  • Alternate Route License (e.g., Teach Mississippi Institute or MDE-approved alternate program) leading to Mathematics (712) endorsement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or Education
  • Experience teaching high school mathematics
  • Training in data-driven instruction and intervention strategies
  • Experience with state assessments and accountability systems

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school campus
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
