JOB SUMMARY:

The Coding Specialist operates as a member of the Coding Department within Revenue Cycle Management. The Coding Specialist is responsible for abstracting all CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifier, and units from the medical record documentation for pro-fee billing.  

SCHEDULE: 

Monday-Friday - 8am-4:30pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Reviews medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
based on payer, provider, and/or location billing requirements.
Ensures coding compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and industry
standards.
Identify and resolve documentation deficiencies; communicate with providers
when clarification is needed
Validates documentation supports level of service selection
Utilizes coding software, encoder and other resources provided
Stay current on coding updates, payer guidelines, and healthcare regulations.
Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
Optimize claims for accurate, maximum reimbursement
Support overall revenue cycle efficiency
Maintains productivity goals set by department
Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION: 

High school diploma or equivalent required  

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: 

Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CIC, COC, CRC,
   CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-A, etc.)
Minimum of 1-year hands-on medical coding experience
Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, & HCPCS coding systems
Ability to work independently
Strong knowledge of MDM leveling and E/M coding guidelines
Fluent written and spoken English required.
