JOB SUMMARY:
The Coding Specialist operates as a member of the Coding Department within Revenue Cycle Management. The Coding Specialist is responsible for abstracting all CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifier, and units from the medical record documentation for pro-fee billing.
SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday - 8am-4:30pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
based on payer, provider, and/or location billing requirements.
• Ensures coding compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and industry
standards.
• Identify and resolve documentation deficiencies; communicate with providers
when clarification is needed
• Validates documentation supports level of service selection
• Utilizes coding software, encoder and other resources provided
• Stay current on coding updates, payer guidelines, and healthcare regulations.
• Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
• Optimize claims for accurate, maximum reimbursement
• Support overall revenue cycle efficiency
• Maintains productivity goals set by department
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CIC, COC, CRC,
CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-A, etc.)
• Minimum of 1-year hands-on medical coding experience
• Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, & HCPCS coding systems
• Ability to work independently
• Strong knowledge of MDM leveling and E/M coding guidelines
• Fluent written and spoken English required.
