A Coding Bootcamp Teaching Assistant supports instructors and students in a coding bootcamp by helping explain concepts, answering questions, and offering guidance on assignments and projects. They often assist in classroom management, provide feedback on student work, and may lead smaller breakout sessions or labs. Their goal is to ensure students understand the material and are able to apply what they've learned to real-world coding problems. Teaching Assistants play a vital role in creating a positive and effective learning environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coding bootcamp teaching assistant?

To thrive as a Coding Bootcamp Teaching Assistant, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, experience with web development languages (such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and often a relevant degree or bootcamp certification. Familiarity with code collaboration tools (like Git/GitHub), learning management systems, and common development environments is typically expected. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to break down complex concepts are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies enable effective student support, foster an engaging learning environment, and contribute to successful bootcamp outcomes.

What are the main challenges coding bootcamp teaching assistants face, and how can they effectively support diverse learners?

Job description

Lead Coding Instructor

Code Ninjas is the nation's fastest-growing kids coding franchise. In our center, kids ages 7-14 learn to code in a fun, non-intimidating way – by playing and building video games they love. Kids have a blast and can't wait to come back. Parents are thrilled as their children gain confidence and new skills including coding, math, logic, and problem-solving, as they progress from white to black belt. Our core promise is, Kids have fun, parents see results. We believe in these words so much that it's written on the walls in our center.

We are looking for a Lead Coding Instructor to join our team of dynamic, energetic, forward-thinking minds, working toward our common goal: providing a fun and safe learning environment for children. Our Senseis are the lifeblood of our Code Ninjas center. This individual oversees the day-to-day coaching and student engagement. Are you experienced in working with children? Do you enjoy teaching and building problem-solving skills in young engineering minds? Have you mentored youth? This could be the role for you.

  • Complete training on the Code Ninjas curriculum and teaching systems
  • Create a positive, engaging, and safe environment where students can learn and grow
  • Work with children to identify skill levels and provide individualized support
  • Assist with student onboarding and provide feedback to parents after tours and trial sessions
  • Follow daily opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the dojo according to corporate standards
  • Report weekly to the Center Assistant Manager regarding student progress and center operations
  • Report daily to the Center Manager regarding activities, productivity, and overall dojo performance
  • Support camps, events, and other center activities as needed
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to work on-site at our Canton, Massachusetts location
  • Previous experience working with children ages 7+ (mentoring, tutoring, coaching, childcare, etc.)
  • Experience working with the general public and providing excellent customer service
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable learning and teaching basic coding and technology concepts
  • Energetic, dependable, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Must enjoy working with kids and creating a fun learning atmosphere

Code Ninjas is a rapidly growing organization, and strong team members have opportunities for career progression into leadership and management roles within the center.
