Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing clinical and administrative duties. The CMA ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by assisting with patient examinations, preparing exam rooms, managing medical records, and performing other tasks as directed. This role is essential to maintaining efficient workflow and fostering a welcoming environment for patients.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
• Taking medical history
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients
• Preparing patients for examinations
• Assisting the physician during examinations
• Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
• Performing basic laboratory tests
• Instructing patients about medication and special diets
• Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections-including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)
• Transmitting prescription refills as directed
• Phlebotomy
• Taking electrocardiograms
• Wound care and changing dressings
Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
• Using computer applications
• Answering telephones
• Welcoming patients
• Updating and filing patient medical records
• Coding and filling out insurance forms
• Scheduling appointments
• Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
• Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) system
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-pressure environment
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
• Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from an accredited program
Physical Requirements:
• Capability to bend, stoop, and kneel to assess patients or perform procedures
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 25-50 pounds (e.g., medical equipment or assisting patients with mobility)
*This is a float position across four locations - Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet, Carolina Forest, and Conway. The position will be based at one location and will float to the other locations as needed.
