Job description

Salary - $80,000 - $160,000
What You'll Own
Translate tax rules, regulatory guidance, and accounting concepts into structured data models, business rules, and computational logic
Research complex tax and regulatory guidance from authoritative sources to define requirements, taxonomies, rule sets, and integration workflows for tax automation
Build the canonical model: every form, every institution, every line item maps back to one consistent source of truth
Explain complex tax and accounting concepts to non-CPA technical stakeholders (architects, engineers, AI engineers)
QA system logic to ensure outputs match expected behavior (faulty logic, not hallucination, is the focus)
Use AI tools (Claude Code, Codex) daily to accelerate the delivery of models and implementation artifacts
Requirements
Must-Have
CPA with 1.5+ years on the floor (minimum 2 tax seasons): experienced tax associate level or above, with end-to-end exposure to workpapers, review, and filing of 1040, 1065, and fiduciary returns
High-net-worth tax depth: familiar with K-1s, partnerships, loss limitations, nonpassive activity classifications, grouping elections, and basis tracking. Pure C-Corp backgrounds do not clear.
Beginner-or-better coding fluency: can read and write code in at least one language. Familiar with data structures (arrays, maps, linked lists), OOP concepts (classes, inheritance, encapsulation), and foreign keys.
Can write algorithms explaining tax logic to non-CPAs and document workflows in diagram form
AI-native: uses Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI tooling daily as production tools, not just experimentally
Nice-to-Have
Background at boutique high-net-worth shops (Anderson, Centerbridge, comparable)
Previously transitioned from tax into automation, dev, or tech roles
Personally built workpapers, calculators, or tax automation tools
Familiarity with professional tax platforms (CCH Axcess, Thomson GoSystems, comparable)
Location: NYC primary, Austin secondary. Hybrid (come in when needed).
