Job description

Mechanics Bank is currently searching for an AI Creator to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This is a fully remote opportunity.
The AI Creator independently builds POCs (Proofs of Concept) and MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) from BRDs (Business Requirements Documents), delivering POCs within a single iteration and MVPs within a few. At the MVP level, this role produces enhanced documentation, architecture diagrams, markdown continuity files, comprehensive test suites, and clean quality scans. Working within a Paired Innovation model - Paired Innovation - the working model where a Catalyst and Creator partner throughout the innovation lifecycle, combining business insight with technical execution - the AI Creator partners with Catalysts to ensure technical execution aligns with business needs. Reports to the Director, AI Innovation.

What you will do:

  • Independently partner with AI development tools to break BRDs into features and stories with accurate time estimates in ADO (Azure DevOps).

  • Build POC solutions using AI-assisted development tools, delivering functional prototypes within single iteration cycles.

  • Harden POCs to MVP standards including architecture documentation, infrastructure notes, markdown continuity files, and comprehensive test suites.

  • Write and maintain comprehensive test suites; validate code quality for teammates at the MVP level.

  • Run quality scanning tools (e.g., SonarQube) and resolve findings to maintain clean code standards.

  • Prepare complete development team handoff packages for innovations moving to production, including all documentation and architectural context.

  • Partner with Catalysts through the Paired Innovation model, translating business requirements into technical solutions and providing build status updates.

  • Contribute to the team's skills repository and participate in the monthly skill review rotation.

  • Evaluate new AI tools, models, and development approaches, sharing findings with the team.

  • Participate in team ceremonies, rotate through scrum master responsibilities, and demo completed work.

  • Travel required: 0-10%

Who you are:

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degreein Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred.

  • Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum of 3 years of software development experience, with a demonstrated portfolio of shipped applications required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience actively using AI-assisted development tools as part of daily workflow required.

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, including code reviews, quality standards, and documentation, preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in financial services, banking, or regulated industries is preferred.

  • Solid software development skills with a portfolio demonstrating the ability to build and ship applications independently.

  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, Gemini, Cursor) as a core part of the development workflow.

  • Experience writing tests, conducting code reviews, and maintaining quality standards in a team environment.

  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation including architecture diagrams, infrastructure notes, and handoff packages.

  • Speed and efficiency in short iteration cycles without sacrificing code quality or documentation standards.

  • Strong understanding of version control, CI/CD pipelines, and development operations.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and evolving processes; ability to remain productive when direction is unclear or shifting.

  • Willingness to pivot quickly when priorities shift based on business needs or new information.

  • Understanding that exploratory work sometimes means building something that gets discarded - and that is expected, not failure.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Familiarity with architecture documentation, infrastructure planning, and development team handoff processes.

  • Experience evaluating and adopting new development tools or frameworks.
