Job description

Job Title: Inpatient Medical Coder

Contract Type / Duration: Contract, 6+ Months

Location: Des Peres, Missouri  

Work Hours: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $30

Job Summary / Overview

We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to accurately code and abstract inpatient hospital accounts in accordance with ICD-10 coding guidelines. The ideal candidate has strong inpatient coding experience, preferably within a Level I or Level II Trauma facility, and is proficient in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding.

Top Required Skills (Ranked)
  1. Inpatient hospital coding experience with strong ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS knowledge.

  2. Experience assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and MS-DRG requirements.

  3. Experience generating coding queries and collaborating with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and quality teams.

Preferred Skills / Nice to Have
  • Experience coding for Level I or Level II Trauma centers.

  • Knowledge of Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRGs), Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs), and Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs).

  • Ability to meet productivity goals (16–17 charts per day).

  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.

Education Requirement
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of two years of inpatient coding experience.

Certifications

One of the following certifications is required:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

  • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Additional Notes
  • Agency must provide equipment.

  • Productivity expectation of 16–17 charts per day.

  • Candidate must be eligible for W-2 employment.

  • No Corp-to-Corp (C2C) arrangements.
