Job description

Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Bolivar, MO is seeking a Certified Coding Technician to join the Coding Department! CMH is made up of 34 primary and specialty clinics, 6 long-term care facilities, and 1 residential care facility. Offering acute care, emergency services, ambulatory care, pharmacies, walk-in clinics, surgeries, addiction recovery, rehab therapies and more, CMH has its community covered!

About the area: Located in the heart of the Ozarks, our main campus in Bolivar has a hometown feel and affordable housing options of rentals or apartments. Springfield is only 40 minutes away with Battlefield Mall, Big Shots golf, Wonders of Wildlife, Urban Air and many other family attractions and restaurants to visit. About the department: The Coding Department ensures accurate and compliant documentation of patient encounters, supporting reliable statistical reporting and appropriate reimbursement.

A typical day will include: Accurately assigning codes for both routine and complex procedures while meeting quality and productivity standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and coding diagnoses and procedures for inpatient and outpatient facility services using current ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines
  • Applying appropriate modifiers to ensure accurate, first-pass claims submission
  • Assisting with internal and external coding audits
  • Communicating effectively with the Hospital Coding Manager regarding documentation or coding issues that may impact timeliness or accuracy

Job Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a nationally recognized coding program (AAPC or AHIMA)
  • Experience: At least 1 year of coding experience preferred
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, effective written communication, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Certifications (Required): AHIMA: CCA, CCS, CCS-P, or RHIT or AAPC: CPC or COC
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods (up to 100% of the workday)
