Job description

Basic Purpose
Responsible for the accurate completion and submission of NV Energy's various taxation compliance requirements, including the IRS, SEC, State of NV, the PUCN and FERC, as well as various consolidated weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate taxation reporting to Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE). Develops templates and provides clear guidance to work effectively with both the taxation team as well as provide accurate data to senior leadership as required. Evaluates internal trends and performance data to ensure opportunities to improve are identified. Ensures accuracy and integrity of information being reported.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Compliance
  • Oversees all areas of corporate tax compliance for the Company. Ensures timely and accurate filings with external and internal parties. Reconciles filings with internal workpapers. Reviews tax computations and filings for accuracy. Ensure all new tax legislation is properly accounted for and disclosed in the financial statements; this includes but is not limited to corporate tax rate changes, new tax credits and other complex tax items occurring in the recent years.
  • Manages the income and non-income tax accrual and all support/reconciliations.
  • Ensures accurate and timely tax payments and reconciliation to tax payable/receivable accounts.
  • Monitoring the IRS and other jurisdictional audits and accounts for positions accordingly.
  • Abides by all SOX 404 internal controls.

Data Analysis
  • Prepares and analyzes fluctuation reports for tax data, including the accrual, the tax return, the fall plan, and others, clearly analyzing and explaining fluxes as necessary.
  • Provides and communicate data to relevant parties.
  • Reviews and analyzes memorandums on relevant tax issues.

Planning and Forecasting
  • Reviews and assists with the 10-yr UI planning and forecasting process.
  • Recommends solutions to issues. Keeps current on new tax law and opportunities and implements them.
  • Assists with business transformation initiatives, including conversion to new software systems occurring within the taxation department.

Leadership
  • Supervises a staff of professionals; provides mentorship and training.

Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting and 10 years of related experience.
CPA or equivalent preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Federal and State tax law and compliance requirements.

Demonstrated skills such as:
  • The ability to initiate and establish objectives, direct, and prioritize resources, and recommend and oversee development or implementation of processes.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills to negotiate with and influence peers on project objectives.
  • The ability to use oral and written communication to manage and train and educate others, and effectively interface with leaders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
  • Ability to maintain high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while meeting established deadlines.
