Job description

B & F Construction Code Services, Inc. seeks a dedicated Mechanical and Energy Inspector and Plan Reviewer to ensure  that all mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers,  refrigeration, amd ventilation, are installed, maintained, and operating according to safety, energy, and building codes.  The ideal canidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and energy codes, a focus on efficiency and safety, and experience in building inspections or energy management.  The position is based in our Elgin, IL office. We provide uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), a work phone, and a company vehicle for your use during inspections.

Our company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions. B & F Construction Code Services, Inc. also provides paid sick and vacation time.

Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a guaranteed 40 hours of work each week. The role involves both office work and field inspections. We also offer on-the-job training, provide study materials, and cover the costs for ICC examination attempts according to our policy.

Job ResponsibilitiesShall Include:

  • Perform commercial, industrial, and residential mechanical/energy inspections.
  • Review construction plans for conformity to ICC Mechanical/energy and the IRC.
  • Perform code enforcement inspections.
  • Provide municipal and private industry code research and reports as assigned.
  • Attend project meetings about plan reviews or inspections.
  • Meet with clients and prospective clients as assigned.
  • Performs exceptional plan reviews and inspections as assigned.
  • Attend meetings with clients and trade associations and represent the company as assigned.
  • Answer code questions and inquiries in writing and over the telephone.
  • Answer inquiries about plan reviews and inspections performed.
  • Maintain applicable certifications by attending training sessions as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of demonstrated inspection/plan review experience.
  • Current model code certification (ICC, NEC, and related standards).
  • Multi-tasking ability, flexibility, and capability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid, state-issued driver’s license.
  • Comply with the certification requirements per company policy and as outlined by their supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

While conducting inspections, an individual must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
  • Able to walk on construction sites. This includes conducting inspections on uneven surfaces.
  • Able to climb a ladder.
  • Ability to walk up/down multiple flights of steps.
  • Be able to stand for an extended period.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
