Job description

Superintendent Job Summary

Apex Building Company, LLC is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Superintendent to join our team. The Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all on-site aspects of construction projects from initiation to completion. This position ensures that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications, timelines, and budgets. The Superintendent serves as the primary point of contact for subcontractors, field personnel, and project stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and proactive problem-solving throughout the construction lifecycle. This position is classified as full-time, with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week. Additional hours may be required based on project deadlines. 

Job Responsibilities

Project Oversight

Manage daily operations at the construction site, ensuring work progresses according to schedule

Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews to maintain workflow and productivity

Monitor project milestones and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines

Quality & Compliance

Inspect work regularly to ensure it meets plans, specifications, and quality standards

Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and local building codes

Address and resolve any issues related to workmanship, materials, or site conditions

Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, and incident records

Communicate updates to project managers and clients

Track material deliveries, labor hours, and equipment usage

Leadership & Communication

Lead and motivate field teams to maintain high morale and performance

Facilitate clear communication between architects, engineers, and trades

Resolve conflicts and troubleshoot delays or disruptions on site

Budget & Resource Management

Monitor resource allocation to ensure cost-effective use of labor and materials

Assist in managing change orders and minimizing budget overruns

Support procurement and inventory tracking for site materials

Employee Timesheet Review

Confirm that all time entries are complete, correctly dated, and match scheduled hours

Check for missed punches, duplicate entries, or inconsistencies in break times

Ensure overtime, PTO, and job specific hours are properly recorded

Approval of time sheets to payroll by required deadline

Crew Supervision & Leadership

Direct and supervise field crews to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification

Delegate responsibilities based on crew members’ skills and experience

Motivate and coach team members to maintain high performance and morale

Daily Operations & Scheduling

Coordinate daily work activities according to project plans and priorities

Adjust schedules and crew assignments based on weather, material availability, and site conditions

Ensure timely completion of assigned scopes, including waterproofing installations

Safety & Compliance

Enforce safety protocols and ensure proper use of PPE and equipment

Conduct daily safety briefings and site inspections

Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and company policies

Communicate with Safety Manager for site specific safety plans, etc.

Quality Control

Inspect work for quality and adherence to specifications, especially waterproofing systems like membranes, sealants, and coatings

Identify and correct deficiencies in workmanship or materials

Communication & Reporting

Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews and site leadership

Communicates progress, challenges, and needs to the Field Operations Manager

Maintain accurate records of crew hours, material usage, and daily progress

Equipment & Material Management

Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and properly used

Coordinate delivery and staging of materials to support uninterrupted workflow

Training & Development

Train new crew members on job-site procedures, safety standards, and waterproofing techniques

Support ongoing skill development and cross-training within the team

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience 

High School Diploma or GED required

Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

3+  years hands on experience in waterproofing construction

OSHA 30 certification required

Additional safety or waterproofing certification preferred

Ability to travel frequently between job sites, including overnight and same day trips

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Ability to obtain and maintain vehicle insurance

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Strong leadership and team coordination skills

Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities

Ability to delegate tasks and manager crew productivity

Knowledge of waterproofing systems, tools, and installation techniques

Familiarity with safety regulations and job site compliance standards

Technical Proficiency

Basic proficiency with mobile apps or software used for HR,  time tracking, reporting, or job site documentation

Ability to complete daily logs, material requests, and crew reports accurately

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive)

Experience with project management software

Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and technical submittals

Ability to generate and interpret daily field reports, punch lists, and other required documentation

Knowledge of OSHA standards and ability to implement site-specific safety plans

Ability to read and use a tape measure

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

OSHA 30 certification required

Additional safety or trade certifications is a plus

Physical Demands

Regular Physical Activities

Walking and standing for extended periods on uneven terrain and active job sites

Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or accessing elevated areas for application and/or inspections

Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to apply and/or observe waterproofing installations

Using hands and fingers to handle tools, documents, and equipment

Communicating clearly in noisy environments, often requiring raised voice or hearing protection

Lifting & Moving

Frequently required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25 pounds

Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds

May occasionally assist with or oversee tasks involving heavier loads with team support or mechanical assistance

Environmental Conditions

Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity

Presence around construction related hazards such as moving machinery, airborne particles, and caustic materials

May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and respirators

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
