CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I

This position is to conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance and approves for opening of restaurants, day care centers, school cafeterias, foster and adoption home applications, grocery and convenience stores. Your work typically regular visits to Edinburg businesses/residential locations and responds to complaints filed. Your job is essential to the city, you inspect commercial and residential locations to ensure codes are being followed. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support as needed. The city needs someone like you with great people skills in providing excellent customer service to all our customers, and finds genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CODE ENFORCEMNT OFFICER I

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
    • Preferred: Associates Degree in general studies
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
    • Preferred: Three (3) years' experience in Code Enforcement and Health Food Establishment Inspections.
  • Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer License from a recognize agency within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Manager Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
