Primary Purpose
Serve as a mentor to high school students during the Summer Symposium: 5-day, 4-night program at the COCC Bend campus.
Dates of program: June 21-25, 2026 - with required additional training sessions prior, dates TBD.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise students throughout symposium making sure students meet expectations, monitoring behavior, encourage participation and develop leadership skills.
  • Participate in and/or lead all activities while providing guidance to students.
  • Assist Coordinators with all logistics including check in/check-out, material distributions, student registration preparations, calling students for confirmations, etc.
  • Serve as a mentor/leader to address/listen to student concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Tier 2: Returning mentor $1650
Tier 3: Lead mentor: $1950
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
  • Knowledge and skill in working effectively within diverse communities.
  • Interact professionally with students, families, professors, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups.
  • Experience with email, Internet, word-processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership activities.
  • Strong skills in working effectively in a team environment.

Ergonomic Requirements
Work will be performed in and out of classroom settings. Mentors are required to stay on campus for the entire duration of the program. There will be optional but encouraged physical components of the symposium including but not limited to hiking, swimming, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, singing, dancing, etc. Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Current or recent COCC student, and/or college student from other regions
  • Knowledge of working with diverse student populations
  • Adherence to the COCC Drug Free Workplace Policy G-32-6 - see below
