The U.S. Consumer Services Team is responsible for our suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., including our premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, our Global Dining and Resy businesses, U.S. Consumer Banking, and best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels. The USCS team is focused on making membership an indisputable competitive advantage and helping each other become better leaders every day.

The U.S. Consumer Marketing team (USCM) is part of the US Consumer Services Group and is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering world class marketing for our differentiated products and services that drives demand and inspires engaged card members across the customer lifecycle.

Prospect, Partner, and Customer Growth (PPCG), within US Consumer Marketing Services, is a fast-paced organization responsible for driving Card Members into the American Express franchise via digital and direct channels. Within PPCG, the Prospect Site and Application Marketing team is dedicated to delivering best-in-class digital marketing and card shopping experiences to effectively convert visitors and efficiently acquire high-quality new Card Members on Americanexpress.com.


As search rapidly evolves with the rise of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and AI-powered discovery experiences, the way consumers find, evaluate, and engage with brands is being fundamentally transformed. This Sr. Manager, SEO and AEO Strategy role will play a critical part in shaping and executing both the short- and long-term organic search roadmap, ensuring our search strategy evolves alongside these industry shifts. This role will lead the development of a best-in-class SEO and AEO program that increases visibility across traditional and AI-powered search experiences while driving measurable business outcomes across the customer journey.


This role requires a highly creative, analytical, and strategic thinker with robust marketing experience and a proven track record of delivering results. The role will partner closely with key stakeholders across analytics, technical product management, legal & compliance, product owners, and digital acquisition channel teams.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.

    5+ years of SEO/AEO experience in an agency or in-house capacity.
    Demonstrated understanding of technical SEO, on-page optimization, content strategy, site architecture, structured data, and search performance best practices.
    Familiarity with the evolving landscape of AI-powered search and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), with a passion for staying ahead of industry trends.
    Experience using enterprise SEO platforms and analytics tools such as Google Search Console, Conductor, or similar technologies. Experience with AI Tracking  and Marketing tools (i.e. Profound, Bluefish, etc.) is a plus.
    Proven track recording of navigating white space and developing strategic recommendations out of ambiguous conditions.  
    Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
    Experience developing SEO/AEO measurement frameworks, reporting on performance, and communicating business impact to stakeholders.
    Self-starter who thrives working independently and within a team. 
    Passion for outside-the-box thinking and challenging the status quo. 
    Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to tailor messaging to audiences of different seniority and expertise.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive SEO and AEO strategy aligned to business priorities and long-term growth objectives.
  • Define and manage the roadmap for optimizing content and digital experiences across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered answer platforms.
  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in AI search to proactively evolve strategy and identify new opportunities.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and Marketing teams to embed SEO and AEO best practices into digital experiences from planning through execution.
  • Define KPIs and reporting frameworks to measure the impact of SEO and AEO initiatives on traffic and downstream business objectives.
  • Conduct keyword, topic, and consumer intent research to inform content strategy across the customer journey.
  • Leverage data and experimentation to continuously optimize performance and validate strategic recommendations.
  • Educate broader team Leadership on evolving search trends and champion SEO and AEO best practices across the organization.
  • Manage relationships with external SEO/AEO agency partners.
