You will drive technology strategy for high-impact Marketplace initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and ensure Walmart’s solutions are innovative, scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term business goals. To ensure the success of these initiatives, it is critical to have a senior technical leader who can provide end-to-end engineering leadership across the full lifecycle of the program.

  • Define and champion architectural blueprints, engineering standards, and best practices across Marketplace CSI initiatives. 
  • Set the vision for cross-domain and cross-platform integration, ensuring solutions are reusable, scalable, and built for long-term category growth. 
  • Partner with product and business leaders to shape technical strategy for strategic category initiatives and new capability launches. 
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks, providing recommendations for adoption where they can accelerate innovation and execution. 
  • Guide the evolution of technology stacks and platform capabilities to support diverse category and seller needs. 

 Technical Leadership & Innovation  
  • Mentor and guide senior engineers and engineering leaders on system design, coding standards, operational excellence, and modern architectural patterns. 
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex, large-scale distributed systems with a focus on performance, resiliency, security, and maintainability. 
  • Drive engineering excellence through strong observability, automation, CI/CD, and operational best practices at scale. 
  • Champion secure coding practices and ensure solutions are designed with reliability, privacy, and compliance in mind. 
  • Remain hands-on in critical technical areas, helping teams solve ambiguous, high-complexity engineering problems. 

 Strategic Requirement Analysis & Solution Design  
  • Lead deep technical discovery and requirement analysis for complex, cross-functional Marketplace initiatives. 
  • Translate business goals for strategic categories into scalable technical solutions and platform investments. 
  • Mediate and resolve conflicting requirements across stakeholders, balancing speed, flexibility, and long-term maintainability. 
  • Shape roadmaps for foundational capabilities and engineering investments that unlock business value across categories. 
  • Guide the creation of technical design artifacts, epics, and implementation plans for large cross-functional programs. 

 
 
Platform Scalability, Security & Compliance  
  • Drive the design of secure, scalable, and highly available systems that support Marketplace growth. 
  • Ensure strong engineering discipline around data protection, service reliability, access controls, and platform security. 
  • Oversee system health, vulnerability management, and architectural risk mitigation across CSI-owned capabilities. 
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards as applicable. 

 
 
Stakeholder Influence & Executive Leadership  
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership, influencing platform investments and engineering strategy. 
  • Lead cross-functional technical discussions, build alignment across teams, and drive decisions using data and sound engineering judgment. 
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Represent Marketplace engineering in broader organizational conversations and help raise the bar for technical excellence across Walmart.

What you’ll bring:  
  • Deep working knowledge of cloud-native distributed system development; Azure / GCP / WCNP preferred. 
  • Strong experience building full-stack, multi-platform, large-scale, low-latency systems using microservices and distributed architectures. 
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers, technical leaders, and architects, and leading large engineering efforts with strong engineering excellence and system design rigor. 
  • Strong hands-on coding experience with the ability to go deep on architecture and implementation details when needed. 
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with product, program management, QA, release management, operations, and other engineering teams. 
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and scaling software platforms for large user bases, with a focus on modularity, extensibility, and long-term maintainability. 
  • Strong platform-oriented decision-making, balancing technical and business needs in fast-paced, complex environments. 
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared technical goals. 
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to connect technical strategy to business outcomes. 
  • Exceptional and concise verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growing environment with ambiguity and high ownership.

  • BS in Computer Science or similar plus 12 years or more in the field OR a MS in Computer Science and 10 years or more of experience.
