Job description

Cobol Software Developer Level III (Automotive Finance Loan and Lease Servicing) Location: Torrance, CA (onsite 4 days/week and 1 day/week remote)
Contract Duration 12 months with the possibility of an extension
Note Must be willing to support nightly batch production support.
We are looking for a Cobol Software Developer who also has auto finance experience to Any FIS/Systematics experience is a plus. The primary tasks for this Cobol Developer will relate to production support and will include the following:

  • Provide Application Development and Production Support for multiple large projects
  • Research and resolve production issues, troubleshooting of mainframe on-line and batch abends
  • Evaluate the daily and monthly batch process to improve performance and shorten the critical path window
  • Perform Impact Analysis across multiple platforms and applications
  • Deliver complete documentation for estimates, design, and development
  • Work with IBM mainframe COBOL, CICS, MQ, DB2, JCL
  • Support nightly batch production support
  • Code and perform unit and integration testing of software to ensure proper and efficient execution and adherence to business and technical requirements
  • Code, test, and debug new software or makes enhancements to existing software
  • Write programs according to specifications from higher level staff or business analysts
  • Develop technical documentation
  • Resolve, in a timely manner, problems that arise with existing production applications to ensure the efficient and proper functioning of application components
  • Collaborate with technical staff to learn and understand software problems
  • Generate a variety of complex and periodic reports and/or data through database management, data administration and data extraction techniques
  • Provide general system users and management with system analysis and feedback
  • Influence system design by identifying and recommending design and requirements needs for software enhancements
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff
  • Analyze and resolve computer related problems by coordinating with in-house personnel to diagnose and fix operational difficulty, as well as consulting, advising and training on specialized features and functions
  • Follow established configuration/change control processes

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a Cobol programmer
  • Must have production and project support for mainframe applications.
  • Must be strong in Cobol.
  • Automotive Finance experience with focus on Dealer Financial Services, including Customer Service, Flooring, Wholesale Line of Credit, and Commercial Loans
    • Business knowledge of financial services
    • Understanding of financial services automotive lending, Customer Service, Payment Processing, Taxes, End of Term and Extension processes, Collections, Delinquency Tracking, Repossession, Charge Off, Recovery, Bankruptcy, and Accounting.
  • Extensive commercial lending/consumer lending experience
  • Experience working with the following technologies:
    • IBM Mainframe, COBOL, MQ, DB2, JCL, and CICS
  • Advanced capability in software construction, testing, infrastructure, configuration, and operating standards
  • Familiarity with test practices and deliverables for unit test
  • Advanced corporate knowledge, and understands how a change would affect multiple applications
  • Advanced ability to perform the following:
    • Make recommendations/decisions in application and program design, standards, and program enhancements
    • Utilize system traces and debugging tools for problem/issue resolution
    • Analyze and model business functions, processes, and information flow within or between systems
    • Provide guidance and mentoring on programming practices and techniques to individuals and cross functional teams
    • Work with users at all levels to define system requirements, design, and system topologies to meet operational needs and system performance objectives
