Familiarity with development environments like Eclipse, mainframe tools such as IBM z/OS, and version control systems like Git is important, along with knowledge of databases and integration frameworks. Effective problem-solving, adaptability, and strong communication skills help bridge the gap between legacy and modern technologies and facilitate teamwork. These competencies are crucial for successfully maintaining, upgrading, and integrating enterprise systems in evolving IT landscapes.

Daily responsibilities may include analyzing existing COBOL code, developing Java modules for new features, and implementing middleware or APIs to facilitate communication between systems. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as business analysts and system architects, is common to ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption to business operations.
