Job description

The UV Coating Line Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and quality-focused operation of UV coating production lines. This position is responsible for learning and performing each part of the UV process, including coating, curing, padding, inspections, documentation, cleaning, and basic line adjustments.
The UV Department receives SPC slabs from the Extrusion process, runs them through the coating and padding process, and provides quality material to the Profile Department. The UV Operator is expected to work safely, follow standard work instructions, support production goals, reduce scrap, and communicate effectively with team members, Production Techs, Maintenance, Quality, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the use of required PPE (gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, protective arm sleeves).
  • Set up, operate, and monitor UV coating line equipment including but not limited to lacquer applicators, UV curing lamps, conveyors, and rollers.
  • Give breaks Material Handlers, Glue/Pad Operators, Leads, or other team members as needed.
  • Load raw materials such as primer, topcoat, glue, and boards into the production line.
  • Continuously monitor quality issues and prevent on hold and scrap material.
  • Ensure correct lacquer viscosity and application weight by conducting regular checks and adjusting settings as needed.
  • Inspect material being placed onto the line to ensure the correct material is being run, and no quality issues exist coming from the previous process (Extrusion)
  • Perform quality inspections on finished boards to verify proper gloss, adhesion, and curing.
  • Complete accurate production and quality documentation (batch sheets, run logs, downtime records, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with production techs (team leads), maintenance, and quality departments regarding issues or abnormalities.
  • Conduct product changeovers, equipment cleaning, and some mechanical adjustments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
  • Participate in shift handoffs and production meetings to ensure seamless communication and production flow.
  • Continuously work to lower scrap material created.
  • Continuously work to improve production efficiency.
  • Utilize time wisely and stay productive which includes adhering to approved break times.
  • Any other task or responsibility as directed by the UV Lead Operator, UV Supervisor, or UV Production Manager.
  • Follow attendance policies and procedures.
  • Work as needed on projects deemed necessary by leadership.
  • Help in other departments and areas as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred (UV coating experience a plus).
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Willingness to learn more advanced skills.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, and quality standards.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, stand for long periods, and work in cold, hot or loud environments for a minimum of 12 hours.
  • Must be flexible to work overtime and other shifts as business needs dictate.

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with SPC flooring or UV lacquer materials.
  • Forklift experience and/or willing to be trained and certified.
  • Experience in UV Coating a big plus.
