Job description

Description:

We are looking for a passionate, experienced, and motivated Competitive Youth Team Coach to join our climbing program. This coach will play a vital role in shaping young climbers both as athletes and individuals, helping them achieve personal and competitive goals in a supportive, challenging, and inclusive environment.

Position Overview

The Competitive Youth Team Coach will:

  • Report directly to the Head Coach and work closely with them to understand and implement the team’s training philosophy and long-term vision.
  • Collaborate with a team of coaches to ensure consistent athlete development across all age groups and ability levels.
  • Assist in executing structured, high-quality practices 3–4 evenings per week.
  • Attend competitions, team events, and training camps as needed throughout the season.
  • Coach athletes on the full range of climbing skills, including:
    • Top rope climbing and belaying
    • Lead climbing and lead belaying
    • Movement technique and route reading
  • Facilitate mock competitions and simulations to prepare athletes for competitions
  • Promote and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Track and communicate athlete progress and needs to the Head Coach and other coaching staff.
  • Identify areas for program improvement and propose or implement innovative solutions.

Schedule & Availability 

  • Must be available 3-4 evenings per week, Monday through Thursday, between 4:15-7:30

Location and travel requirements

  • Coaches will travel between two different gym locations, one in Chandler and one in Gilbert, depending on the practice schedule
  • Must be willing to travel for competitions and events, including local, regional, and divisional competitions. Travel locations and dates vary depending on the season

Qualifications

We are seeking a coach with the following background and characteristics:

  • Minimum of 2 years coaching, working with youth in an athletic setting, or having been a youth athlete yourself in an athletic setting
  • Demonstrated experience implementing structured training sessions for athletes.
  • Passionate about coaching, climbing, and youth development.
  • Strong communicator who is comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and eager to grow within a team.
  • Able to connect with a range of youth personalities, from beginners to elite competitors.
  • Certifications (or willingness to obtain within a reasonable time frame):
    • USA Climbing Level 1 Coach Certification (Level 2 preferred)
    • SafeSport Certification
    • CPR & First Aid Certification
    • Successful background check clearance required

Compensation

  • Compensation will vary based on experience and qualifications.

  • This is an hourly position. Weekly hours may vary depending on the exact needs of the team and season.
