You assist ophthalmologists by preparing patients for examinations, administering eye drops, and maintaining exam room cleanliness and supplies. Many COAs also help with minor in-office procedures, educate patients about eye health, and enter clinical data into electronic health records. This role is vital in ensuring the clinic runs smoothly and that both patients and ophthalmologists are well-supported throughout the care process.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities help COAs excel when interacting with patients and supporting ophthalmologists.
